Guide and Service Dogs

Labradoodles are often used as guide, service and seizure dogs because of their unique combination of intelligence, athletic ability, agility and friendliness. It is rare to find all of these characteristics in one type of dog, and this is due to the fact that the Labradoodle originates from two exceptionally smart and able breeds, the Labrador and the Poodle. Of course, Labradoodles come by service work naturally; they were initially bred in Australia for the express purpose of assisting blind and disabled people who were allergic to other types of dogs.

If you are interested in training a puppy to be a seeing-eye or guide dog, please contact us for more information on the breed and the specialized training that is required for these services. Fortunately, aside from the non-allergenic qualities for which Labradoodles were initially bred, their uncommon intelligence means that they are exceptionally easy to train, in or out of the service arena.

Labradoodle Training

At aAprina Labradoodles, we begin training our puppies from day one. By the time you receive your new pup, he or she will already be paper-trained and crate and doggie-door-trained. We raise our puppies on our idyllic 250-acre ranch in Oregon, where the dogs have over five acres of pasture to themselves. Our multi-generation Labradoodle puppies get frequent exposure to the outdoors, to swimming in the water, and to socializing with both adults and children.

Of course, you will have to continue with training when you bring your new Labradoodle puppy home, whether or not you are considering using your Labradoodle for service work. Training any young puppy takes time and requires patience, but you'll be amazed at how quickly your aAprina multi-generation Labradoodle will learn. These dogs are eager to please and will work their way into your heart immediately,.
